What's the deal with "inhabitable"?

Merriam-Webster defines inhabitable as the adjective form of inhabit, which in turn is defined as:

1: to occupy as a place of settled residence or habitat : live in <inhabit a small house>
2: to be present in or occupy in any manner or form

So what's the deal with inhabitable? This has to be one of the most confusing words in the English language. Much like inflammable means the same thing as flammable, inhabitable is the same as habitable, which might be damn confusing considering the in prefix means "not".

Bartleby has an obscure reference to the etymology as follows:

Middle English enhabiten, from Old French enhabiter, from Latin inhabitre : in-, in; see in–2 + habitre, to dwell, frequentative of habre, to have; see ghabh- in Appendix I

Ah! Now we're getting somewhere! And what exactly is the second form of the prefix in-? Again, citing Bartleby:

1. In; into; within: inundation. Before l, in- is usually assimilated to il-; before r to ir-; and before b, m, and p to im-. 2. Variant of en–1.

And that's the deal with inhabitable.

New browsers

Firefox

A while ago, I embarked on yet another rant about Internet Explorer. Today, as somewhat of a followup, I would like to point our readers towards the newly-released versions of Firefox 3 and Opera 9.5, two of the best browsers on the market.

I'm prefer Opera, but I know that there are many more people - including Binkley - who prefer Firefox. I actually intend to try out Firefox 3 (which was released today) because it sounds like a much-improved product. It has already crossed one million downloads in under four hours.

I hope our readers give these browsers a shot if they are still stuck using IE.

A Japanese Xbox (original) video game called Metal Wolf Chaos, which featured English dialogue. It's a tragedy it was never released in the US.

Richaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaard!

Seriously, this is the greatest thing ever. Whoever wrote this dialogue either thinks all Americans talk like the stars of 80s action movies... or he is the greatest comedic writer of our generation.

Primogenital Matters

Did You Know?! Although a good friend of George I, Aztec Rex did not feel that it was fair that George's siblings would have no share of the family's territories.
